Mopar Mile High Nationals

After not writing for a while, I finally had another great weekend that was “blog worthy!” Since moving back from Indianapolis, the job hunt has been long and tedious. It is definitely true that looking for a job is a job! However, I know that I’m closer to finding what I’m supposed to do and I can’t wait to see what that is.
Last week, I was put in touch with Kurt Hansen of Race Central TV. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect because the Mopar Mile High Nationals were coming up that weekend. On Thursday, Kurt and I met at the Mopar Big Blog Party in Golden, CO. This was a neat event that kicks off the whole weekend and gets people ready for some racing! He was live on Mile High Sports Radio from 6-8pm. Following the radio show, he and I went out into the crow and interviewed some passionate fans.
Friday was an exciting day for me because I had never been to an NHRA event before. I arrived at Bandimere and was anxious to see what the weekend had in store. There were four different categories of cars that started qualifying that day – Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The final round of qualifying on Friday night was awesome! The Top Fuel cars hit close to 310 mph and were so extremely loud! After growing up around IndyCar, I was convinced I would lose some of my hearing, but this weekend was bound to do some damage!
Saturday and Sunday were very hot, but the days both flew by. We set up a Race Central TV booth, where fans could stop by and get information on his show. I worked the booth for a bit, then also went into the crowd with Kurt. Towards the end of the day, and also on Sunday, he took me to the Start line, which really topped off the weekend! I was able to see why Bandimere is called Thunder Mountain because my whole body was shaking from those cars! It was definitely the full experience – the sound, the drivers and the NITRO!
I am grateful for this past weekend and definitely hope that my work with Race Central TV can continue. Be sure to check out Race Central Radio on Mile High Sports Radio (am 1510 fm 93.7) on Friday’s from 6-8pm and Race Central TV on Altitude on Thursday’s at 5:30 and 10pm.
Congratulations to all of the winners – Spencer Massey (Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) and Karen Stoffer (Pro Stock Motorcycle). The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series continues its schedule this weekend, July 29-31 in Sonoma, California.
Bye for now 🙂
