Colorado Defeats No. 5 Texas

Wow, what a great win by the Colorado men’s basketball team yesterday! The Buffs trailed by 22 points in the first half and came back to win 91-89 against No. 5 Texas.
I worked the game for the CU Sports Information Department. This is both very exciting and difficult at the same time. We are told not to cheer, but as our team started to make a comeback, I couldn’t help myself! My fellow employees and I were crawling in our seats as we silently smiled and the crowd around us went crazy.
Yesterday’s game was the fourth sell out of the season at the Coors Events Center and you could definitely feel the energy. Colorado started the game shooting 5-of-8 from the field and finished the first half making nine of its last 14 shots. Colorado had a 24-3 run in the second half, which enabled them to take the lead that they wouldn’t give up. In the last minute of play, the Buffs shot 8-of-10 from the free-throw line to seal the victory.
Not only was this a great team effort, but a few players broke individual records as well. Senior guard Cory Higgins set a new record by playing in his 123rd game in a Buffs uniform. Levi Knutson’s 21 points are the most he has scored against a Big 12 opponent this season and Alec Burks had a game-high 33 points, which marks the second time this season he has scored over 30 points in a game.
After the game, I was walking back to the media room and found myself smiling from ear to ear. The roar of the crowd and the immense pride in my team gives me goose bumps. The boys started to run in after me and they couldn’t stop cheering. Talk about a great victory!
Colorado is now 14-2 at home for the season, 18-11 on the season and 7-7 in Big 12 play. The Buffs will take on Nebraska in their last home game of the season next Saturday. The past few months have sure passed quickly, but hopefully March 5 will inch our team one step closer to the tournament.
I look forward to working my last game as a Buff and will cherish the time I have spent on the court forever.
This blog post gives the light in which we can observe the reality.
